Important Information to Digest!
Colonic Irrigation, Colonic Hydrotherapy, Colon Cleanse or simply Colonic are all terms used to describe what is fast becoming one of the most sought after health treatments in Drogheda Co Louth.
If you’re looking to kick-start a healthier lifestyle, build your energy levels, boost your metabolism, improve skin tone or assist with a weight loss programme then these are just a few of the benefits of colonic irrigation.
Our digestive system has a lot to do with the way we feel, how we look and our general well-being. Your digestive system can easily become imbalanced through poor diet, stress, lack of exercise, choice of drink and general lifestyle.
What Goes In Must Come Out
Food that isn’t digested fully ends up in the colon where it builds up over time. This causes the digestive system to slow down, be less efficient and back-up. A backed-up colon is also a breeding ground for unhealthy bacteria, causing a build up of toxins in the body. An average colon is 5 foot long, so imagine what could be backed-up!
Did you know the average transit time of food through our bodies should be 24 hours? In Ireland it is reported that an average transit time is closer to 60 – 70 hours.
Some of the more common side effects from an improperly functioning colon and poor digestion can be feeling bloated, bad breath, bad skin, constipation, fatigue, protruding abdomen, difficulty losing weight and disturbed sleep.

Q: What is the procedure for Colonic Irrigation?
A: Colonic Irrigation is a gentle treatment during which filtered water at body temperature flows into the rectum and then in and out of the colon to soften and remove faecal matter which has built up over time.
Sterile and disposable pre-packed equipment is inserted approx 1 inch into the rectum. This controls the flow of water to the colon and allows the water to carry any waste matter away.
The treatment last for approximately 30-40 minutes.
Q: Is it painful?
A: No. There is an unusual sensation at the beginning but as you relax you will become completely at ease with the treatment.
Q: Do I need more than one Colonic Irrigation?
A: The number of treatments needed can vary as everyone is different. Your therapist will advise you of the recommended number during your free consultation.
On average, 3-4 treatments is normal. Remember, the colon is 5 feet long, so it usually will take more than one treatment to successfully clear the entire colon
Q: How frequently do I need Colonic Irrigation?
A: We normally recommend a course of 3-4 treatments and that 5-7 days are left between each treatment. However, the gap between each treatment should not be more than a week, as this will reduce the effectiveness of the treatments.
After you have completed your course of treatments, it would normally be 6-12 months before we would recommend a 2nd course of treatments, if needed.
Again, your therapist will recommend the correct course and frequency of treatments at your consultation
Q: Do I need to prepare before a treatment?
A: To get the maximum benefit from the treatment we would recommend that you avoid eating a meal 1-2 hours before treatment. The effectiveness of the treatment is also improved after your regular bowel movement.
Q: Is Colonic Irrigation safe?
A: Yes. Out therapists are fully trained to perform colonics. We use state of the art equipment and all equipment is sterile and disposed of after every treatment. During your consultation we will answer any questions you have and also ensure that colonic irrigation is right for you. If there are any concerns the procedure will not take place until both parties are happy.
Q: Can Colinic Irrigation help me lose weight?
A: The short answer is no. Colonic Irrigation is not a fast track to weight loss. However, there are several benefits that will aid someone who is following a weight loss programme. Increased metabolism, increased energy levels and reduced food cravings are all positive effects that will be felt after colonic irrigation. It can therefore give you a great start or boost to your weight loss programme.
Q: How private is the treatment?
A: Our priority is your comfort and privacy. During your consultation you will be shown the private treatment room. You remain covered at all times. Your therapist will discuss your preferences during your consultation.
Q: Is it OK to have my Colonic when I have my period?
A: In actual fact, this is a good time to have a colonic as your body is already in cleanse mode. So yes, it is perfectly safe to have your colinic during your period.
Q: Is a Colonic for men and women?
A: Yes. In fact, we treat equal numbers of men and women.
Q: Is there anything to stop me having a Colonic Irrigation treatment?
A: During your consultation we will establish if there are reasons not to proceed and recommend an alternative course of action or therapy if necessary. High blood pressure, severe haemorrhoid or pregnancy would be some of the conditions that would prevent the treatment going ahead.
Q: Can I have Colonic Irrigation if I am on the pill?
A: Yes, there is no problem with having a colonic if you are on the pill.
